Over the years, there have been exchanges between councillors, groups of schoolchildren, sports teams, dancers and musicians such as Keynsham Orchestra & Libourne Chorale.
For many members, the main focus has been reciprocal group exchanges between individuals from the two towns and surrounding areas. They stay with families and enjoy a programme of organised trips and social activities as well as having time with their hosts. This is a perfect way to experience the way of life in another country and over the years many friendships have developed.
For many years the Association supported annual visits by groups of university age French Wine Students from the Lycée Montagne-Libourne . The students were hosted in local homes and had a programme of excursions and activities, including visits to major cities such as Oxford and Cardiff, as well as vineyards and breweries. This was an educational visit, often coinciding with the London Wine Fair and culminating in a wine tasting organised jointly with Friends of Wellsway School .
More recently the Association has organised work placements for students of Libourne’s Lycée Max Linder who are thinking about their future employment.
Do you have a hobby or leisure activity? Imagine sharing your interest (photography, bridge, swimming, tennis or whatever) with an enthusiast in Libourne at the same time experiencing the surroundings and French way of life. If you belong to a club where others like this idea, we may be able to put you in touch with a group in Libourne.
We want to encourage exchanges between like-minded groups and can act as facilitators or help with communication if you don’t speak French. Contact us if you are interested.
